Throughout the 2004/2005 school year,
more than 45,000 California students researched and prepared entries for
local History Day competitions. Coming to San Diego for the state
competition in May 2005 were more than a thousand high-achieving young
people from 33 counties. They made history come alive as they explored the
theme, “Communication in History: The Key to Understanding.”
Once again, “California Kids” brought
home laurels from the National History Day competition held this past June
at the University of Maryland in Washington, DC. Out of thousands of
students nationwide who had competed at the local and state levels, the
Californians listed here came up winners at the national level.
