State Capitol Museum Tour

In the heart of Sacramento, California's State Capitol embodies the best of California's past and present. Forty acres of lawns, flower gardens and memorials to California history surround the building. Home of the California Legislature since 1869, the State Capitol underwent a major renovation that restored much of the building's original look. Tour the restored historic offices of the Secretary of State, Treasurer, and Governor of the State of California!

California State Railroad Museum

Throughout the main Railroad History Museum building, 21 meticulously restored locomotives and cars and numerous exhibits illustrate how railroads have shaped people's lives, the economy, and the unique culture of California and the West. Included are a Pullman-style sleeping car, a dining car filled with railroad china, and a Railway Post Office that visitors can actually step aboard. A visit to the California State Railroad Museum is a not-to-be-missed experience that will be enjoyed by all.

Sutter's Fort

In 1839 a Swiss immigrant named John Sutter received a land grant in the Sacramento Valley from the Mexican government. He used the land to create a flourishing agricultural empire. This empire established Sacramento's earliest settlement and the first non-Indian settlement in California's Central Valley. In 1847 Sutter sent aid to the Donner Party, a group of immigrants trapped in a winter storm in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Word spread and Sutter became known for his hospitality and for providing temporary refuge to travelers. Less than a decade after they were established, Sutter's properties were overrun by gold seekers and the fort is all that remains. Explore Sutter's Fort and enjoy a BBQ dinner along with historical demonstrations that will transport you back in time!

SATURDAY, JUNE 22nd

Genealogy Breakfast

Do you enjoy Genealogy? Don't miss this breakfast presentation by Wanda Arnold from the Genealogical Association of Sacramento!

California State Library

The California State Library was founded in 1850 with donations by such illustrious pioneers as John C. Fremont and John Bidwell. Join Gary Kurutz, curator emeritus of the California State Library, for a 45-minute show and tell featuring a number of the treasures of the California State Library. You'll get to see for yourself wonderful rare items from the State Library's collections including James Marshall's hand-drawn map of the gold discovery site, early diaries from California's amazing past, examples of rare forms of early photography including daguerreotypes and ambrotypes and more!

Awards Luncheon

Our Annual Awards Luncheon honors those who have made major contributions to the preservation of California history. It will be held at Ten22 in historic Old Sacramento. We have outstanding honorees this year and it promises to be an exceptional luncheon recognizing all that our honorees have done for their local history. We will also be celebrating the beginning of CCHS's 60th Anniversary!

Old Sacramento

Spend a relaxing afternoon enjoying Old Sacramento, walking distance from the Embassy Suites. It was the gold rush of 1848 that created the City of Sacramento and early Sacramento's waterfront location was prime for commercial success. Today, with 53 historic buildings, Old Sacramento has more buildings of historic value condensed into its 28 acres than most areas of similar size in the West. Registered as a National and California Historic Landmark, the properties in the district are primarily owned by private owners. The area has flourished and is once again a thriving commercial trade center.

Delta King

The Delta King in Old Sacramento is a unique Sacramento treasure. The authentic riverboat plied the Sacramento River between San Francisco and Sacramento from 1927 to 1940. During World War II it served as a troop transport on San Francisco Bay. After the war the Delta King became a derelict roaming the Delta, without purpose or home. It sank at Richmond in San Francisco Bay in 1982 for a period of 18 months. In 1984 the Delta King was brought to Sacramento where it underwent an extraordinary renovation. Dine aboard the historic vessel and enjoy fireworks from the River Cats stadium after their game!
