National History Day - California

National History Day - California State Finals: May 2021 in Rocklin, CA!

The general theme of National History Day is TEACH / PREPARE / INSPIRE.

National History Day (NHD), established in 1974, is a non-profit education organization based in College Park, Maryland, that is dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of history.  NHD California State Finals will be held in May 2021 @ William Jessup University, Rocklin, CA. The 2020-2021 theme is Communication in History: The Key to Understanding.

"NHD is a year-long educational program that encourages students to explore local, state, national, and world history." *Engaging students and teachers in historical research & skills development*

The intentional selection of the theme for NHD is to provide an opportunity for students to push past the antiquated view of history as mere facts and dates and drill down into historical content to develop perspective and understanding.

The NHD competition has two divisions based on school grade.
• Junior Division — grades 6, 7, and 8
• Senior Division — grades 9, 10, 11, and 12
Entries in each division are judged separately at all levels of competition.

The Conference of California Historical Societies is proud to support this annual competition with financial awards.  With your generous support in this area, we can continue to support the next generation of California historians in their effort to continue preserving California history.  Donate Now to help us continue to support National History Day - California!
