COLUSI COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Websitehttps://colusi.com/

The Colusi County Historical Society is a thriving and growing group, approaching and looking forward to our 75th anniversary in 2025. We are dedicated to the preservation, documentation and dissemination of the history of Colusa, Glenn and Tehama Counties, which at one time were all part of Colusi County, one of the 27 original California counties. We have upwards of 200 members and a board of 14.

Events
Recent events have included We Are Americans!, led by Lani Yoshimura on February 17, focusing on the history of the Japanese in our region since the early 1900’s. Another great event was the Stonyford Museum History and Tour on April 13, led by the wonderful folks of the Stonyford Museum Volunteer Committee. Upcoming on a date in October still to be determined will be a Living History Event at the William B. Ide State Historic Park in Red Bluff. Keep an eye out on our website for the confirmed date.

Publications
For over 70 years the Society has published a twice per year periodical, Wagon Wheels, containing multiple interesting articles on the history of the three-county region. Edited by Dr. Gene Russell, Wagon Wheels is a quality publication of interesting facts, articles and photos. The periodical is free to members and all 141 back issues and indexes are available from the Society’s website, www.colusi.com, at minimal cost plus shipping. This is a great publication of excellent historical interest.

Preservation
The Society is the current recipient of a preservation grant from the Northeast Document Conservation Center. This will allow us to properly inventory, catalog and preserve the historical documents and other items we have collected over time. Thank you NEDCC! This helps us make a great step forward.

Society memberships are available and information is contained on our website. We have survived covid and the attendant slowdowns, are actively building for the future and are proud to be Conference members. Please feel free to contact us at any time and we look forward to hearing from you.
